So we have been following the news of the new 2010 Tigé RZ2. The new touch screen controls and such sound awesome. Here is a pic of the cockpit.
Tige 2010 Cockpit
Now, what I REALLY want to know about is how the new in hull ballast and additional automated sac system work. Will it surf well? Well I just got a call from Jean Wagner and Ben Pidgeon from Tigé and the 2010 RZ2 is headed my way. It looks like they are going to give me the boat to demo for a few hours this weekend. So what I am going to do with it? Other than drool? Well, here is my plan:
Test the wake on both sides with stock ballast and setup. RJ and Whitney are goofy and Ashley is regular, we will get video in this stock setup on both sides.
Pull the sucker out of the water, and switch out the swim deck, I assume that the stock deck will cut into the wake a bit, lets see how the new deck effects the wake.
Pull the sucker out again, and this time put on the acme 1235 prop, see how the boat performs and if the wake is effected at all.
Take an extra vdrive sac (400lbs) and place it in the back/side to simulate what this boat would perform like if it was customized with the new prop, new deck, and larger custom sac. Test on both sides.
My whole family will be in the boat the entire time to get a feel for the RZ2 comfort and spaciousness.
All and all I think this will be a great and thorough review of the 2010. We are very excited for the opportunity. I wonder how other boats would stand to this test? Hmm….
UPDATE: Looks like we are going out tomorrow morning (Saturday 10/31), so if you have any suggestions, get em to us quick!
Do you have any suggestions? What would like you like to see us check test? Let us know with the form below:
There are 2 hotels I would stay at in Paradise, and we put people up in them all the time. They are clean and reasonable. About 5 minutes from the marina or Wake9 HQ.
1st Annual Polar Bear Wakesurf Challenge
So the date is Saturday, November 14th, and the place is Lake Oroville. We will be meeting at the dock at Lime Saddle Marina at 10:30am, or at my building 5 miles away at 10am and I will drive you in. We will be on the lake til about 4pm, or until we freeze. We will then head to Woodstocks Pizza in Chico where wake9 will treat for the best pizza in Chico.
9300 Skyway
Paradise, CA 95969
Current Head Count: 10 guys outside wake9, between 230-325lbs.
So far we will have boards sent from The Walker Project, Props Wakesurfers, Lakewakes, Asylum Boardz, and Midwest Wakesurfing. I am working on more. Those are companies sending boards, of course others will be bringing boards, but those are official companies getting behind the fun.
Both TWP and Props will have representatives at the event.
There will be at least 2 towboats, 2 chase waverunners, and one huge 44′ pontoon party barge to stage from. Water should be around 60+ deg, it has been around 68 lately. I will keep updating as it gets closer.
So it looks like we have an event coming together. Keep following this thread for more info. I need a head count. Use this form to RSVP. It looks like we are working on a date of 11/14/2009, meet at 10:30 in the Paradise California area.
So, here is the thing. It looks like we will have 2 boats confirmed, and I just confirmed the 44′ barge will be at my disposal. 250lb + guys will be priority, but ok if you are 200+ and really want to come, don’t want to exclude. But I don’t want to drop off a 250+ guy for a 200 guy if that makes sense. This is mostly about helping to resolve that Bigger Guy market. I think we are going to have enough room for all, but wanted to be clear.
I am shooting for my tige, Frank’s sanger, and maybe one other tow boat. Also my pontoon, 2 waverunners for video and photos, and the 44′ barge which will be great if it rains.
RJ and Whitney took a tip from surfdad and video’d themselves working it out. The video speaks for itself. They definitely fumble their way through, but seem to have a good time doing it.
Yesterday was a great day for wake9, a great day for the Garcias. First, Jesse is standing up on the board and she is so cute out there when she tries. She can stand for about 2 seconds before losing her balance and RJ has to jump out and get her. She is working for a 5 count. If she can stand up for 5 seconds wakesurfing, then Jessica will get her first American Girl doll. She wants it bad. She is always coming to my desk and showing me the catalog, and the accessories.
The other reason it was a great day is Jesse got to take off her splints, most likely FOREVER. If you don’t know about Jesse, you should read this post:
We have always been told by the doctors and several therapists that Jessica will always wear those splints until she stops growing, around 18 years old. They are so painful, and smelly after a day of sweating. They really hurt her, and they are designed to force her legs to correct themselves. Here is a picture from last summer where you can see her in the splints.
Jesse in Her Splints
Well, no more splints. We celebrated yesterday and went straight to the mall and bought Jesse 3 pairs of regular shoes from the Vans store. Her first regular pair of shoes. So we made a video to memorialize the day and share it with all.
