How to Wakesurf 101: Gettin’ ‘em Up

July 11th, 2010 ragboy No comments

So we have been working on techniques for teaching others to wakesurf for quite some time. We teach a lot of people, mostly kids but many adults also. In this podcast, part of the “How to Wakesurf” series we show several techniques in detail for teaching others how to wakesurf. We had a couple of my nephews visit from Texas, they are 9 and 10 and non-boaters. They each got up and surfed with the rope after just a handful of tries. Stay tuned for the next podcast in this series, “Going Wireless”.

When people watch these videos, there are often lots of questions, and we want to help, but its tough to stay on top of all the emails. So go HERE and feel free to post any questions, and feel free to post pictures of your results, we LOVE to see them.

Here are a bunch of great pictures of the day:

Extended Family Wakesurfing

July 5th, 2010 ragboy No comments

We had a great July 4th holiday with extended family members, and we got to teach a cousin how to wakesurf. Bradon only had 1 session but was able to just about let go of the rope. Another session and he would have been free riding. However, Nate Holdstat (another cousin) stole the show. The kid was a trooper, at 6 years old, never been out before, and he couldn’t wait to try tandem with RJ. What fun. These are cousins from Amy’s side of the family, which explains the extreme “whiteness”. It just goes to show, that although white people are both pasty, and lacking rhythm, they can still be fun to have around. ;-)

Here are the pics, Enjoy!

Jessica Wakesurfs on the Rope!

July 2nd, 2010 ragboy No comments

Its been a long time coming, almost 18 mos. We have been working hard to get Jessica to stand up on her own and ride behind the boat. Most kids learn a lot quicker, but if you have been following wake9.com you know Jesse is special, and has a condition with her legs that make it difficult for her to keep her balance. We are VERY proud, watch the video.

Here are all of the great pictures:

New 2010 RZ2 for Wake9.com

June 29th, 2010 ragboy No comments

So, were hoping to have ready by the 4th, but either way we are stoked. I originally came up with some colors and then Danny from Tige asked me if he could just design something sick with a WHITE tower. That sounded intriguing. I am always up for an adventure, so I said ok. He’s hispanic, we should be simpatico, right? ;-)

Here is a slideshow, we will keep blogging as we get more pics, and then when it is delivered.

OK, I am REALLY interested to see how this tower is going to look. Has anyone seen a white alpha z tower in the wild?

Big Guy Wakesurf Boards and The Boat Board

June 28th, 2010 ragboy No comments

So we have been having a lot of fun helping test some The Walker Project (TWP) boards and test and prototype several Lakeswakes boards. This goes all the way back to October of last year when we had our Big Guy Demo event we called the Polar Bear Event, since the water was so cold. We had a blast, and 2 boards floated to the top of the heap. Since then those prototypes have been polished they are blast to ride. There is the high performance Bazooka, a real shredder, and the tamer Lakewakes 5.2 Boat Board. We call it the “Boat Board” because it is fun to ride, still maneuverable and fun, yet with the back fin in very stable and great for all sizes and teaching new people.

Quickie Wakesurf Contest – Best Recovery

June 21st, 2010 ragboy No comments

So its time for the first wake9.com Quickie. What is a Quickie, well it is basically a quick contest where you submit video. On this quickie, you can win one of Wake9.com’s special industrial Camera Mount for your boat and your handheld HD camera. It works on any camera that has a tripod mount underneath. We had fun with this video/podcast, I guess we like to be stupid on occasion, maybe too often. ;-)

NOTE: No need to BEAT RJs video, its just an example of a great recovery. We want to see your recovery vids, and we will judge them apart from RJs for the prize. You may submit up to 7/6/2010. Have fun!

Here are some pictures of the camera mount and how we mount it to the fiberglass, it is rock solid. You will win a BRAND NEW one of these, minus the camera.

If you would like to provide a prize and sponsor one of these quickie contests, feel free to contact me. We will be doing them several times through the summer.

Just Use the Contact form at the bottom of this post, after the video to submit your video from any service like Vimeo, Youtube, Google, etc.

Spring Wakesurf Festival Recap

June 11th, 2010 ragboy No comments

So RJ finishes all of the competition video and stuff, and so now he has a few videos under his belt and is editing podcasts quite nicely. It is fun watching him learn a skill, he has caught on very quick. He has watched me over the years, but he still has picked it up faster than I expected. So he asks me if he can make a recap video of the entire event with music, photos and video, putting together all he learned. Works well for me, we can put it on youtube, and use it to point people to the entire Festival Archive. So he does it, I don’t touch the computer, only give him verbal pointers. He did a great job, enjoy!
