2012 Tige Z3 - Final Competition Wake Test

When we went to Oregon a couple weeks ago to visit wakemakers.com we installed something pretty cool and also made some minor mods to prepare the boat for the West Coast Wakesurf Open. We will talk about that stuff shortly, but basically our goal was to create a competition wake on both sides on the same boat. That means the system has to be able to switch sides fast and also be ROCK SOLID stable. Their can't be any leaking or venting of water once the wake is set.

RJ and Dennis and I feel more obligated this time around to make the best wake we can. Not only because we helped test and give feedback to Tige on this hull, but we are using our own boat. We will have a backup Z3 at the event, but we plan on pulling the entire even with

2012 Tige Z3 - Amazing Wake - Pure Stock

We have received a lot of requests to test the Z3 with just the stock system, not the competition wake. We have been quite crazed to make sure we had a competition ready wake in time for the West Coast Wakesurf Open, so much so that we kind of glazed that over. Well now that our comp wake testing is done, we did a test with just me and the kids and we left the extra sacs on the pontoon boat. No extra lead, water, nothing but us and the Pro Stock system. Not even a cooler, drinks, or ice.

Before I get to the pics and video, it looks bigger than you would expect, that has a lot to do with the way this is weighted. Its all in the math. When we do a comp wake, we may use lead but we try to build the wake with just water, and I personally

Tige Z3 - Final Manual Ballast Test

So last time we went out it got really windy and we had some problems with our regular side surf corner sac. We pretty much got things working by the time Frank surfed and the wind had died down. I didn't feel like we got a good test, though. It seemed like the regular side was more finicky or different than the goofy side and that has not been the case with any of our other Tiges. They always are the same on both sides. We are heading up to Wakemakers in Oregon next week to install a special system into the boat, but before we did I wanted to make sure that simply adding plug and play sacs in this boat was all that would be needed to create a great competition level wakesurf wake on both sides. We have worked hard every year to provide a great wake and conditions at the West Coast Wakesurf

Building a Consensus in Judging and Scoring for Competitive Wakesurfing

- Growing Pains -

Over the last couple of years the sport of wakesurfing, particularly as it pertains to competitions, has been going through some growing pains. There are a lot of wildly varying opinions and interests. There is a group of event organizers that have formed a group called the CWSA that is trying to work through many of these issues and build a consensus moving forward. I thought it would be good to share some of my thoughts, and hopefully help get that discussion moving.

I know this is long, but its a complicated issue and I felt like I needed to get all of these thoughts down.
2012 Tige Z3 - Second Wakesurf Session

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video must be worth a million. So lets just start there, we had a LOT of fun with this video.

It was freezing, but we had an amazing day out there. I think Dennis' smile on this one says it all.
Wakesurf Interviews: Sean Cummings

Sean Cummings is a great friend of wake9 and we decided that we wanted to catch up with him and find out about what was going on with him and his company (wakeshredder.com) in the world of wakesurfing. Sean talks about a new Wakesurf camp he is doing in may, and also his clinic he is teaching at the West Coast Wakesurf Open. Sean also told us he is ALL IN for the MyWake Global Wakesurf Challenge this summer and we can't wait to see his run. Watch the interview and find out much more.
2012 Tige Z3 - First Wakesurf

We had a great day on the lake today. I can't say it was "opening day" for us, it was so cold and a bit windy that it still felt like an off season run. The water was 55 degrees and the air temp was 64. The sun was just out enough, though, that it felt like summer was around the corner. Its going to rain for a week again, though, so this was just a break. The Z3 Keeps blowing past our expectations, and surprising us with the level of wakesurf engineering that has gone into this hull/boat.

Here is the quick test video we did 2 days ago with just the stock pro ballast system and no gear or anything in the boat. It is a pretty amazing wake and remember that Dennis Horton (60 years old and 285 lbs) rode this setup in texas without

2012 Tige Z3 Quickie Wakesurf Test

So after the boat show the plan was to have the Z3 taken back to the dealer, prepped, then we pick it up in a couple of days to then hit the lake the following Saturday. That was a fine plan, but then the sky opened up and dumped over 10 inches of rain in just a week or so. Awesome, we NEED the rain, but not the greatest timing. So there is a break in the rain and we head down to get the boat. Thanks to GoldKey Boathouse for meeting us halfway, that was VERY cool. On the

2012 Tige Z3 Unwrap at New NorCal Dealer!

So the official boat of wake9 and the towboat for the 2012 West Coast Wakesurf Open is finally here! The boat is sitting on the show floor at the Sacramento Boat Show and the desire to just rip it out of there and take it to the lake is overwhelming. Its gorgeous, thanks so much to all the folks at Tige. RJ and Dennis and I will all be on the show floor with California Marine Sports and GoldKey Boathouse with the new
