I have been pouring over all the threads as summer has been approaching and thought it would probably be a good idea if I specifically asked about my situation. We have an '09 Tige Z1 (no ballast tanks) and got some fat sacs this past summer (400# in rear we are surfing on and one in the front under the seats that we fill as much as possible (? 200-250#??). We typically ride with just our family of 4 (I am 6' & 175#, my wife is 5'4" & 135#, my 15 year old son is about 5'10" & 150# - and growing, and my 13 year old son is 5'6" & 140 - also growing). When we got the boat, we got a 5'6" Broadcast from our dealer. It's been fun and we've all been able to go wireless - for varying amounts of time. I am interested in picking up another board and was originally thinking about getting the Mucas. One of my sons mentioned that we should maybe get a skim style board instead. After reading through some posts I am now leaning toward the Victoria Factor (large) since it's skim, Ragboy mentioned they enjoyed the board, and is on the cheaper end. We use the boat in New Hampshire and do not really have the opportunity to demo a board (bummer). Do you think this would be a good board to step up into? Since we've only used the Broadcast, will this be an entirely different feel to surfing? Do you think the Factor (vs. the Factor PCX) would work well? Any other recommendations or info that I can supply? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Ok all. I saw this on the internet and thought that this would be the place to ask. http://switchbladewake.com/

Any experience good or bad on this thing. I know it's kind of like other "wedges" out there but I always wondered on the theory of this. If the goal is to push the boat down into the water to create the wake, something like this might pull the boat down. Plus it pivots on multiple axis rather than just one. They claim it's equal to 1200#'s of ballast. I was thinking one of these (different design) on each side so you could just engage one side would be interesting???

Thoughts???

Im 6'8" 260 newbie. In fact, my whole crew is new to surfing. I have a 5'6" hyperlite broadcast which the lighter members 160-190 can easily go wireless however the heavier members of my group have a hard time staying in. I can't say whether it's weight, technique or whatever. Honestly we learned from your YouTube videos on how to get up etc, but we fall back and over the top of the wave a lot. The boat is an 02 Calabria V-drive with a stock 750 lbs ballast and an additional 750 in the locker. The wake plate is manual so I have just left it at near flat which is how it was when I got the boat. I am intending on playing with that a bit since our wave looks a lot shorter in length than yours. Anyways, what recommendations would you guys have for a self admitted newb that is in his first season owning an inboard boat and already is addicted to surfing? Thanks!

So I have a 2008 X-45.

It has stock ballast of 1000#'s (700 in back and 300 in the locker). I had added 520# under the front seats and 2 400#'s in the rear lockers on both sides of the engine.

I want to upgrade the rear bags to max out my ballast. I'm thinking of putting the 1100# bags back there but they will probably only fill to 800 due to space. I can also probably put the 400's under the side seats. So bags won't be an option.

My questions are:

How much is too much? What is the consensus on ballasting +3500# vs. the displacement of the boat?

and

Has anybody done anything with trim tabs? In my head it seams you could keep some water on the opposite side of the surfer and with trim tabs be able to drive that extra weight down into the water.

Has anybody tried ballasting everything and used trim tabs to get the list they need?

Qualities that I am looking for are competion surf wake (will do what it takes to customize to get it, any setup advice would be great), great ride when not surfing, good wakeboard wake, quality boat. I know its kind of a lot of criteria but if i'm spending all of that money I would like to get a quality boat. I have been reading a lot about the RZ2 and Z3 but the Z3 is quite a bit more expensive. Also I hear a lot about the Enzo 230's. Any advice would be great and any custom setup advice for the boat would be great too. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

I've never wake surfed but am looking to get into it this year. I'm 5'10" and will ride at 180lbs or so. Another rider is 6 ft 190. We might have some other smaller riders (wife is 5'4" 125 or so) but at this point I don't anticipate her taking a lot of turns.

Style wise I'm thinking a surf style is going to be more of what we are after right now. I'm not opposed to the idea of a skim style and might buy both if I can find the right deal.

The main places I've been looking are the-house, evo and towanza. I've looked at Inland surfer and phase 5 mostly. I'm open though. I want something that is good quality that we won't outgrow quickly. I did notice the Ashley Kidd Pro Model from XXX that looked interesting today as well though. I'd be open to any good brand since I know virtually nothing. I don't want to go with a wakeboard brand board though.

Budget wise, I'd say around 6-700 for a single board would be where I'm comfortable at. Thats the top end though - I'd prefer something less but I realize it gets harder to find good stuff at the lower price points. Any advice?

I know I have seen a youtube of Ragboy reporting on weighting a RZ4, but I can't seem to find it now. My dealer is installing custom rear sacs for me from Wavemakers (he had a prior relationship with them). Up front, I have the stock proballast sacs (400 lb x2). I'm usually out with 5-10 people in the boat.

So, what is the best weighting or should I be looking for specific angle of list? How should I weight the front - weight and both sides or only surf side?

I have the 450 hp engine (2011 model) and haven't noticed any cavitation. Would changing the prop help my wave any?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I recently purchased a 2009 Rz2 with stock ballast. We are all beginners and all we want to do is ride the wave. Please help with ballast product/ purchase location recommendation, ideal TAPS setting, ideal speed. We all ride portside. Can you recommend a beginner long board that is perfect for just riding the wave without the rope? Thanks and love the site.

I just wanted to post a big THANK YOU for posting all the videos and info about setting up an awesome surf wake. I have been saving, scratching and cleaning up my credit for 6 years to buy a wakeboard boat. I Recently started surfing behind a friends X-2 and realized it was all about the surfing, just not behind an X2. So after looking at various boats and spending lots of time on the lake watching boats cruise by with a surf wake I was completely confused. Then I watched the videos and read through the forums on your site where I learned what made a good wake and how the RZ2 was the right boat for me. I picked up my new 2011 RZ2 today that was a low hour dealer demo. We took her out on the lake today and with the stock ballast (900 total) it threw a respectable long clean surf wake on both sides with the front 400 filled up, rear 250, 11.4 MPH and taps at 3-5. We also only had three people on board. The dealer in Austin Tx is going to upgrade the ballast to split the front 400/400, add an extra 550 on each side to the rear all tucked away nicely, adding pumps, plumbing and integrated into the touch screen for $1500.00. With plenty of room left for even more ballast.

Thanks again for the info and helping me decide on the Tige RZ2.
I thought it was simply because i took the time to weigh it properly but wonder if Tige's prop direction favors thegoofie surfer.
